Artboard cropped to logo
If you are working in Illustrator, start by cropping your artboard to your logo. Snap to guides are helpful here, but make sure to zoom in close and make sure you haven't left any pieces outside of your new artboard.
Logo on a large artboard, with a gray background.
Edit the artboard and crop in to the edges of the logo.
Remove the background
Save as SVG
Lastly, save your file as an SVG format. The default settings that Illustrator presents are fine, but you can use your own settings if you prefer.
Cropping the Artboard tight to the logo allows Standards to give you control over resizing of your logos with better accuracy.
By having no background, it allows Standards Automations such as "Logo on Color" to replace the color behind your logo, without interference.
SVG files are vector based and work on the web. It Standards to take your logo files and use them throughout your document in Automations, as well as re-color, re-size, and make other user-controlled manipulations.
Here is an .SVG file prepared correctly. You can download this file and open in your application of choice if you'd like to see a properly setup file.
